7 OAHU MUST-SEE-AND-DOS

Coastline Aerial view Of Kahala

Oahu, “The Gathering Place” of the Hawaiian Islands, home to the state capital Honolulu as well as about 66% of the state’s population, our favorite island (sure, we’re a little biased). And while we do believe that all of Hawaii Nei is beyond beautiful, Oahu has a very special place in our hearts. Whether you plan to visit the island or have lived on it your whole life, below is our recommended list of 7 Oahu must-see-and-do’s.

1. SURF’S UP
What better place to learn to surf than at the birthplace of the sport itself! Surf lessons are offered throughout the island, especially in Waikiki and along the North Shore.

2. HEAD TO THE NORTH SHORE
I mean, is it really that surprising that our beloved North Shore snagged a spot on the list? One of the many great things about living on Oahu is that making a trip around the entire island is doable in a single day. So even if you’re from the south side or your hotel sits on Waikiki beach, make it a point to spend sometime on the north side. Grab some fresh fruit on the side of the road, visit our post at Turtle Bay Resort and book an adventure with us, eat at Ted’s Bakery, stop at one or ALL of the beaches from Laie to Haleiwa, eat again at one of the many shrimp trucks, then finish strong with some shave ice from Matsumoto’s. North Shore offers some unreal views that the rest of the island simply cannot.

3. DIAMOND HEAD
Did you know that Diamond Head is a state monument? It is as iconic to Oahu as is Waikiki. The hike is great for all ages and offers jaw-dropping views once your reach the top. Make sure you bring a camera, the photo-ops are real!

4. GRIND ALL THE FOOD
Be ready for your tastebuds to be blown away! The food on Oahu is unreal. Pick up pastries at Liliha Bakery or Leonard’s, indulge in authentic Hawaiian food at Helena’s or Ono’s, find some quality plate lunches at Rainbow Drive-in, satisfy your sweet tooth at Waiola Shave Ice, the options are endless. Our single piece of advice for eating local? Pace yourself.

5. EXPERIENCE A LUAU
The word luau refers to the taro leaf, a food typically served at a Hawaiian dinner gathering. Over time the word became the more commonly used term for these get-togethers. We believe that a luau not only offers a chance to taste authentic Hawaiian food, but also the opportunity to learn about Hawaiian culture and tradition. The Polynesian Cultural Center offers a luau that we highly recommend.

6. PAY A VISIT TO PEARL HARBOR
While it is technically possible to visit all of the available Pearl Harbor sites in a few hours, the absolute best way to experience it all is to make an entire day of it. There’s a lot to see on the property and we truly believe it’s a great way to learn about an incredibly historic location.

7. BEACH DAY, SANS PHONE
If we were asked to recommend just one activity while on Oahu, it would be, without a doubt, to spend a day at any beach without a phone. Take some time to be near the ocean without the distractions of technology. Allow your mind and body to truly relax.

That’s it! Our list of 7 Oahu Musts. Think we missed anything? Have any questions about any of our recommendations? Need our helping in getting your Oahu adventure started? Contact us today, we’d love to help you.
